Breen, Myrl Ruth

Myrl Ruth Breen (nee Block) of Bourbon, MO passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the age of 81 years.

She was born in the Baden area of St. Louis Missouri on 1-8-1931 to the late Fredrick and Gertrude (Bauer) Block. Myrl attended Beaumont High School and after high school married John Breen on 6-11-1949. They were blessed with ten children and lived in the Walnut park area in St. Louis until 1971 when the family moved to Bourbon Missouri and continued to reside in the family home for many years. She worked in the Bourbon School lunch room for several years and then as a nurses aid in the newborn nursery at the Sullivan Community Hospital. She was a member of the Bourbon Quilting Club and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW.


Myrl enjoyed new babies, gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting and being with her family. She volunteered at the Bourbon Agape Mission and was a regular Crawford County Election Pollster for many years. She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Bourbon Mo and then transferred to the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan MO.

She is survived by eight children, John Frederick Breen of Sullivan, Patrick Michael Breen and wife Sharon of Cuba, Robert Joseph Breen and wife Jane of Columbia, MO, Marcia Sue Lovelace and husband Terry of Bloomsdale, MO, Denise Marie Dickey and husband Steve of St. Clair, Mary Elizabeth Bouse of St. Louis, Maureen Chlipala and husband Mike of Sullivan, and Janice Marie Crews and husband John of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Elaine Van Vorn of St. Louis and Judy Greer and husband Bill of Seattle, WA; 26 grandchildren and 18 Great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Myrl was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Gertrude Block. Husband: John Breen. Daughters: Deborah Breen and Jacqueline Breen. Grandson: Eric Breen. Great grandson infants: Trevor and Travis Stroup and daughter-in-law Tracey Breen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2012 with the Rev. Father Paul Telken officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri. Visitation was held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Anthony Church in Sullivan MO for memorial masses in Honor of Myrl Breen.
